- Graduated from the U of MN with a Bachelor’s degree in English Communication
- He is a retired Communications Teacher from Apple Valley High School where he was the Head Coach for 31 years, had 13 state tournament appearances and earned 2 state titles. Walt is in the Apple Valley High School Hall of Fame.
- Walt was a AA USVBA player from 1970-1985 and won numerous AA Regional Championships at various National Tournaments.
- Walt was also a AA Beach Player from 1970-1980 at numerous Midwest Beach Tournaments and an Aquatennial Champion.
- He is the Director and Co-Founder of Midwest Volleyball Instructors Camps and Clinics (since 1979- which he now runs with his wife Tracey)
- 1980-1989: North Country Juniors Head Coach
- 1988: Minnesota Monarch’s Professional Volleyball Head Coach AND was the Major League Volleyball Coach of the Year
- 2012 and 2013 Lakeville North Head Coach: 2012 State Tournament Championship.
- 2015 Interim Head Coach for St Olaf College
- Head Coach at Northern Lights for 13 years and earned 4 National Championships
- In the MN State High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame and MN State High School League Hall of Fame
- Lives in Lakeville with his wife Tracey. He has 3 children and 3 grandchildren.
